Greetings! Thanks for coming by, and I hope you find articles here to that leave you enriched, enlightened, and entertained. I write about leadership, mentoring, coaching, business, relationships, and family. There may be an occasional story about dogs, flying, swimming, cycling, and living life instead of watching others live theirs.
In the past twenty years I’ve simultaneously managed three very diverse full time careers.
- Helicopter Pilot and Leader for the US Navy
- Semi-Professional Student
- Father to four of the best children on the planet (bias admitted)
In addition to two decades of active duty as a deployable pilot afloat and ashore, I found time to complete two masters’ degrees, lead the organizations running my children’s activities, and raised four sufficiently mature young adults. How did we do it? Patience, diligence, and efficient use of the time we had. That, and not really watching TV. Like, ever.

Alex retired from the Navy after 20 years leading Sailors and flying the MH-53E Sea Dragon, the military’s largest and most powerful helicopter. During his ‘free’ time, he earned a Masters of Organizational Leadership from Regent University, a MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School, and spent 10 years as a single father with sole custody of four children, the youngest of them enduring a successful 4-year battle with childhood cancer.
